My Sweet Tooth

Life is Short Eat Dessert First

I’m working from home this afternoon, so that I can keep a watchful eye on Momma le Chat.  She hasn’t been feeling very well the last couple days, so I’m letting her sack out on my bed and hog the covers.

The trouble with working from home is that I can just shovel food in my face all day.  At work, I pretend to only eat 3 meals a day.  At home, I want to build a funnel from the refrigerator to my mouth.  I have no integrity in the privacy of my own home.  I can polish off an entire Entenmann’s (literally anything they make) during a commercial break. Shirley Temple

Shirley Temple

Most of you probably know that the one and only Shirley Temple passed away on Monday.  Easily the cutest face ever seen on television, she is also the namesake of my favorite beverage (somehow that last bit didn’t make it into the wikipedia entry).

Though she went on to have a very successful political career after her retirement from television at 22 (and is widely credited with making it okay to talk about …MORE AFTER THE JUMP!

12 Cookies of Christmas

photo 4

Happy Monday, everyone!

Hope you all had a great weekend!  I did 20 hours of baking and discovered one very important thing about myself: I do not like rolling dough.  I fear this rules out several possible career paths for me, but I will learn to live with that.  For now, I need to put a hot compress on my neck and my feet in a salt bath.

BUT I did it!  I baked 12 different cookies (a la 12 Days of Christmas) to share with my favorite peeps just like my mom used to, and it felt really good.  I don’t, however, recommend trying to bake them ALL in 2 days unless you have replacement body parts on-hand.

Liberating the Bacone

Now this one leaves me with more questions than answers.

1 – There’s a place called Bacon Camp? All those years I was going to sleepaway tennis camp when I could have been learning how to make a BACON WEAVE?

And 2 -

To Grandmother’s House We Go!

Growing up, the kitchen was the heartbeat of our house.  You could probably map the life of our family by the spines of the cookbooks, just like you would read the age of a tree by its rings.

My mom cooked because she found joy in feeding her family, and she could make a Michelin meal on a hot plate if she had to.  We are Hungarian, but she cooked like she was Creole and filled plates like she was Italian.

It makes me smile to know that the world is full of women like her.  Gabriele Galimberte traveled the world photographing them for his series “Delicatessen with Love,” which …READ MORE!

Eat Like You Give a F*ck

I’m sure you’ve already heard of Thug Kitchen.  If not, you probably still have dial-up or travel by horse and carriage.  Thug Kitchen gives vegan living street cred with loads of recipes and a generous helping of f-bombs (the website’s tagline is “Eat Like You Give a F*ck”).

It was pretty much impossible to find a photo for this post that didn’t have one expletive or another slapped on top of a beautiful picture of salad (“plant nachos”), which is a further testament to the entertainment value of this website.  I would apologize for my fragrant love of cursing, but I talk like I was born in a saloon and delight in everything Thug Kitchen is serving up – the good food and the dirty language.

I guarantee you a hearty laugh (and a growling stomach) just clicking through the photos!
