What a Betty!

Betty White 4

Over the weekend, I was poking around on the internet and stumbled across this gorgeous lady.  I had no idea who she was, and when I found out, I couldn’t believe that she hasn’t gotten more attention for her stunning good looks.

Have you guessed who it is? FIND OUT AFTER THE JUMP!

My Modern Family

Modern Family

Growing up an only child I never ate at a kid’s table during the holidays, I couldn’t complain about mom and dad to a sibling, and hide and seek never worked.  But when my family exploded …MORE AFTER THE JUMP

Open Letter: to NYC Moms

Stroller Photo

Dear Women All Over New York Carrying Strollers Up The Subway Stairs,

How do you do it?

I think I would throw in the towel after one trip during rush hour and head to temple to beg God to give my newborn the power to walk.

Those strollers are huge, ridiculously so, and just about the most annoying thing a person could have to maneuver onto a packed subway car.

How do you not resent that beautiful little face staring up at you while you use all of your bicep strength to carry a bed-on-wheels up a flight of unforgiving concrete stairs? I resent people for so much less!

I must applaud your dedication to your child’s comfort, as well as your commitment to supporting public transportation. Oh, and to the women with double strollers for multiple babies – just stop. You are clearly angels come to Earth and the world needs you to use your powers for a greater good.

Believe!

Jamie Tworkowski Quote

I love this quote.  Let’s all be that “other person” today – a screaming invitation to believe better things.  Sure, the cronut made me believe in better things.  Dry shampoo made me believe in better things.  But 3 year-old Emily makes me believe in better people.

I had a big ole lump in my throat watching her video.  The bottom line – if you have a lot of something, don’t hold onto to it – give it away to someone who needs it more.  See her beautiful story …after the jump!

Shirley Temple

Shirley Temple

Most of you probably know that the one and only Shirley Temple passed away on Monday.  Easily the cutest face ever seen on television, she is also the namesake of my favorite beverage (somehow that last bit didn’t make it into the wikipedia entry).

Though she went on to have a very successful political career after her retirement from television at 22 (and is widely credited with making it okay to talk about …MORE AFTER THE JUMP!

Being Uncool

I think many of us were stunned by how deeply affecting Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death was yesterday – after all, it’s not like we actually knew him.  I did see him a few times in NYC and could never quite comprehend the man that stood before me, slightly pot-bellied and smoking a cig on the street corner.   His talent was so celestial – it must have been difficult to be human, I usually thought.  But instead of being sad, I am thankful for every person and every moment that nurtured him in a way that allowed him to give so much of himself to his audience before he returned to his ethereal home.

Enjoy this short clip from his role in one of my favorite movies, Almost Famous.  He talks about friendship and how “the only true currency in this bankrupt world is what you share with someone else when you’re uncool.”

Thank you for being “honest” and “unmerciful” with your craft, PSH.  Wishing you peace and an afterlife full of great film roles.

Cascada

I’m going to go ahead and call it – this is going to make my list of favorite videos of 2014.

It’s like this: 7 dudes in the Mexican jungle are hunting the perfect waterfall.  When I tell you that the POV shots of them kayaking through rough waters and being launched over waterfalls is breathtaking, I mean just that.  You will stop breathing.  This is so sumptuously filmed that you’ll imagine you feel the jungle mist on your face.

I give you this week’s Moment of Zen – Cascada.  Makes me want to get out from behind this desk!

(I recommend viewing in full screen here.)

Favorite line – “Athletes, artists – the line between the two is gone now.”
