A Glass House
I’m always inspired by “idea people.” I’ve wanted to be one of them for as long as I can remember, but I’m just a humble executor (not to be confused with executioner). Hand me an idea, and I will get it done – just don’t ask me to come UP with the idea. I will chew my pencil down to the nub and die of graphite poisoning before you realize that my brain is actually an empty cavern.
So I’m especially awestruck when an “idea person” is willing to give up everything they have – job, wealth, security – to see an idea come to fruition. Take Nick Olson and Lilah Horwitz (in the video below), for example. They quit their jobs, lived on a diet of rice and beans, and built a breathtaking house out of salvaged windows for about $500 in Western Virginia. Why? To create a place where light was never hidden.
So this morning’s inspiration, I guess, is quit your jobs, folks, and build your own metaphorical glass house!
