Hey, Can I Borrow Your Phone?

It’s no secret that I love a good upcycle project – you can find me on most weekends covering random objects around my apartment in chalkboard paint.  I like to get my craft on (which is probably why I’m unwed and sleeping in a pink bedroom at 34).  Nonetheless, these phone booth upgrades make me squeal.  I mean, is it just me, or when you see people talking on a payphone, don’t you just assume they’re up to no good?  I figure they’re international spies or criminals on the run and just give them a wide berth as I pass by, yet these cheerful phone booth makeovers make calling your parole officer seem a little less menacing.

Until the payphone is completely obsolete, I like the idea of dressing them up and making them less of a decaying eye sore.  Now if only you didn’t need a hazmat suit to use one.  I’m gonna take a stab in the dark here and suggest that every disease known to mankind started in one of the payphones on a NYC subway platform.

What else in our public spaces do you think could use a little art upgrade?  Yellow cabs?  Public stairs/escalators?  Leave your ideas in the comments sections, and maybe we could get a project of our own going!

In the meantime, here are my favorite phone booths!
